Established in 1972, MSA provides consulting engineering services for the design of mechanical, electric, plumbing, fire protection building systems.  We also have experience designing animal life support, security systems, data and voice cabling infrastructure and media retrieval/management systems.

Our services also include assistance in facility programming and planning, systems evaluation, and application engineering.

We follow each project through to its successful completion, including assistance in system commissioning and operation. Our project managers are qualified in the MEPFP disciplines and have extensive construction administration, site supervision and system commissioning experience. MSA has qualified and experienced staff members in facility design engineering and project management. Staff members include: Licensed Professional Engineers, LEED Accredited Engineers, Associate Engineers, Design CAD personnel as well as Administrative and Clerical staff.

Key Personnel

JEFFREY A. LEVERENZ; President

Mr. Leverenz has 30 years of experience in the design and management of mechanical, plumbing and fire protection systems for commercial, institutional, governmental, and educational facilities.  He has been with Mechanical Services Associates since 1985.

Mr. Leverenz attended Northern Illinois University and majored in industrial design.  Further education includes technical courses for mechanical and electrical systems, equipment, and operation.  Other areas of expertise include project quality control, construction management, and project administration and site observation.

MARK CARLSON, LEED GA; Vice President

Mr. Carlson has 24 years of experience in the design of electrical, lighting, computer/ communications (including wide area networking), intercom, video, security and fire alarm systems for educational, institutional, governmental and commercial facilities.

Mr. Carlson attended Southern Illinois University and has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering & Technology.  He has been with Mechanical Services Associates since 1987, with a four year break for service with the U.S. Air Force.

ROBERT E. LARSEN, P.E., LEED AP BD+C; Director of Engineering

Mr. Larsen has 27 years of experience in the design and management of mechanical, plumbing and fire protection systems for educational, commercial, industrial, governmental and institutional facilities.  He joined Mechanical Services Associates in 2000.

Mr. Larsen has a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Illinois at Chicago.  He is a licensed professional engineer in Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Missouri, Texas and Wisconsin. Mr. Larsen’s responsibilities include mechanical, plumbing and fire protection design, project coordination, project administration, construction management, site observations and project quality control.

JAMES A. FARR, P.E.; Senior Project Engineer-Mechanical

Mr. Farr has 26 years of experience in the design of mechanical and plumbing systems for educational, commercial, industrial and institutional facilities.  He joined Mechanical Services Associates in 2007.

Mr. Farr has a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Iowa State University.  He is a licensed professional engineer in the State of Illinois.  Mr. Farr’s responsibilities include project management, mechanical and plumbing design, coordination and construction administration and site observation.

 DANIEL W. SEIBERT, P.E., LEED AP; Senior Project Engineer-Electrical

Mr. Seibert has 21 years of experience in the design of all facets for electrical systems design for educational, healthcare, commercial, industrial, and institutional facilities.  He joined Mechanical Services Associates in January 2008.

Mr. Seibert has a Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from Iowa State University.  He is a licensed Professional Engineer in the State of Illinois and is a LEED Accredited Professional Engineer.  Mr. Seibert’s responsibilities include project management, electrical design, coordination and construction administration and site observation.

BENJAMIN R. GWALTNEY, IT Manager

Mr. Gwaltney brings domain infrastructure and security design experience from working with DoJ and DoD agencies. Mr. Gwaltney is currently active in the U.S. Air Force Reserve working as a Cyber Systems Engineer supporting an Intelligence and Reconnaissance squadron in collaboration with active and national guard elements. Mr. Gwaltney is working towards a Bachelor of Science Degree in Information Technology from Western Governors University in Salt Lake City. Mr. Gwaltney’s responsibilities include network, website security and maintenance; design of technology infrastructures, system programming and low voltage system designs including: audio-visual, communication and security systems.
